Description

Birdy the Mighty/Tetsuwan Birdy and all related characters are the property of Masami Yuuki. Meme by Dimension-Dino.

I'd already posted a list based on this in my journal, but I figured, "What the heck?", and decided to do this meme.

Anyway, my first exposure to Birdy the Mighty was through the OVA series, back when Encore's Action channel aired anime, so it's been a while.  That said, I had to wait for Central Park Media to release the series to DVD see the second half, as Encore would only air the first half.

Sadly, the dub was... how do I put it... crap.  So, right around the time Birdy the Mighty: Decode started airing (in Japan, so back in 2008 and hence before Funimation released the series Stateside in 2010), I was thinking about how a new dub of the series might be done.  One of these days, I'll actually think of ideas for Tsutomu's parents and the detectives.  But in the meantime, let's get to who I did "cast"...

* Birdy Cephon Altera: Kari Wahlgren.  This one is pretty weird. This was kind-of inspired by the fact that Birdy's seiyū in the OVA is Kotono Mitsuishi, whose roles include Usagi Tsukino, the title character of Sailor Moon herself and Excel Excel, the title character of Excel Saga. Granted, Birdy doesn't quote get as energetic as Excel, but I did make a point to "cast" someone who could get to a pretty high energy level.  Then, I recalled Kari Wahlgren as Haurko from FLCL and Nova from Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! and thought "Okay, Kari could get to the levels Birdy can get to."  That said, I do picture the actual voice for Birdy more in the range of Blue Rsoe from Tiger and Bunny.

* Tsutomu Senkawa: Yuri Lowenthal.  I'd shown BigBDawg001 a fanfic I'd worked on and asked for his thoughts on who could work for which roles. When it came to Tsutomu, he's suggested Yuri, based on his performances as Ben Tennyson in the Ben 10 sequel series and Superboy (called Superman for reasons that I believe have been resolved since its cancellation) in the first season of the Legion of Super Heroes cartoon.  Upon doing some thinking, I thought that it could work.  After all, Tsutomu in the OVA could be dorky, and Ben Tennyson can be dorky at times, as were Simon at the start of Gurren Lagann (though he certainly grew out of it later on) and Shinra Kishitani from Durarara

* Natsumi Hayamiya: Stephanie Sheh.  This isn't gonna go too deep. I was watching Bleach and thought, "Orihime's voice might work for Natsumi."

* Inspector Megius: Fred Tatasciore.  Granted, the man doesn't do anime often, but he did do some voices for Naturo. Anyway, I was watching Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, where he fills in for Dustin Hoffman as Shifu and thought that he could work for Megius, especially seeing as Megius's voice in the OVA is a bit gruffer than his Decode counterpart.

* Hazumi Senkawa: Hynden Walch.  Granted, Hynden Walch is better known for characters like the Teen Titans cartoon's version of Starfire and Nia Teppelin from Gurren Lagann, but she does have a range and I thought that maybe her voice for Blackfire from the TT cartoon might work for Hazumi.

* Christella Revi: Laura Bailey.  Another suggestion by BigBDawg001.  As the pic say, it was inspired by Lust from Fullmetal Alchemist.  I'd originally "casted" Wendee Lee, but upon thinking about it, I thought that Bailey was a better idea.

* Georg Gomez: Neil Kaplan.  I'd listened to him as Tobi from Naruto: Shippuden and thought that the voice he did could work for Gomez.

* Seichiro Hikawa: Dave Mallow.  The Anti-Spiral was pretty creepy and I thought that the voice could work for a mad scientist like Hikawa, who is pretty creepy.

* Geega: Patrick Seitz. I was thinking that the voice he did as Luke Valentine could work for Geega when he's in his human disguise, considering in the OVA, his disguise isn't quite so obviously evil-looking as in Decode. For his true form, I was thinking maybe his voice for Deathstroke in Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe could work, albeit with modulation done to the voice.

* Bacillus: Steven Blum.  Well, the man can do creepy, as Ghotsfreak proves, and given he's a parasite, Bacillus is pretty creepy as hell.

* Salamander: Liam O'Brien.  Not much to go into here. Just thought that his voice as Warren Worthington, III/Angel/Archangel from Wolverine and the X-Men could work for Salamander.

Well, there you go. Hope you like it.:)

UPDATE: Had another idea for Gomez that might work better, so I decided to update this.
