Superman: Last Son Fan Cast, Part 1

Description

Superman and all related characters are the property of DC Comics. Meme by :icondimension-dino:.

I'd bought the TPB to Superman: Last Son of Krypton a while ago and a hobby of mine besides drawing and writing is to do fan casts of various comics I've read or fanfics ideas I've had and a tendency of mine is to default to my favorite voices--and a lot of the time, I just tend to default to the fan favorite voices, a lot of which are my favorites, too. In this case, I decided to experiment a bit--and while it's not completely devoid of reprisals, I opted to avoiding default to the Superman: The Animated Series cast as usual. Granted, there are a couple of DCAU vocies reprising roles, but the other reprisals don't.

And given Man of Steel just came out and who the villain in Last Son is, I thought this might be fun to do.

* Superman: George Newbern. Techincally, my default is Tim Daly, but George Newbern did good work when he replaced him for Justice League. Given he did replace Daly for the DCAU, I suppose it is a bit of a copout, but he also did vocie a Christopher Reeve-esque Clark Kent when he reprised the role for The Batman and Geoff Johns likes homaging the Reeve movies and Richard Donner helped write said arc, so I thought it might be fun.

* Lois Lane: Pauley Perrette. Again, another reprisal. She thought she had good chemisty with Newbern in Superman VS. The Elite and, tying into Johns being a Donner fan and Donner helping him write the arc, like a few people, her voice reminded me of Margot Kidder.

* Perry White: Fred Tatasciore. Again, another Vs. The Elite reprisal, but this one is also because I kind-of felt bad because I'd "cast" him as another character and that character only grunts and groans, so I wanted to cast him for a role that had actual dialogue.

* The Kents: Paul Eiding for Jonathan Kent and Frances Conroy as Martha Kent. A bit of mix and match here, but again, I thought they'd done a good job before and thoguht they'd work for the story. Regarding the mixing of vocies here, Martha didn't speak in Superman VS. The Elite and only had a voiceless cameo and Jonathan was either dead (All-Star Superman) or asleep (Unbound) the times Conroy voiced Martha.

Onto the new casting...

* Chris Kent: Élan Garfias. This was when I realized I had a lot of Transformers voice actors in this, including his parents, General Zod and Ursa, because I had two ideas for Chris and both were inspired by Transformers series: Élan Garfias (Cody Burns from Rescue Bots) and Andy Pessoa (Raf Esquivel from Prime). I'd talked with ~BigBDawg001 about it and after that decided to go with Garfias since we both thought he might be better suited for Chris. That said, given General Zod is an abuisve father, that makes who cast for Zod a little twist since he's from Rescue Bots, too (though he's not Maurice LaMarche, who voices Cody's dad).

* Mon-El: Yuri Lowenthal. This is a bit of a casting gag as he voiced Superboy/Superman in the Legion of Super Heroes cartoon and Mon-El was used as a stand-in for Superboy at times. It's a two-fold casting gag, too, as Mon-El was considered from the second season for the LoSH cartoon until they opted to create Superman X and Lowenthal voiced Superman X in addition to Superman.

* Jor-El: Peter Cullen. I don't recall which incarnation of Transformers I'd gotten this idea, but I know it was inspired by Optimus Prime. I thought based on his recent times as Optimus Prime (including the pictured Optimus from Transformers Prime) that his Optimus voice might make a good fit for Jor-El.

* Jimmy Olsen: Josh Keaton. I decided to not cast his voice actor from VS. The Elite because of the desire not to fall back on the S: TAS cast--and David Kaufman, Jimmy's voice in S: TAS did reprise the role for the movie. Josh Keaton had come to mind and I thought that Josh Keaton might be a good fit for Jimmy after remembering his performace as Spider-Man in The Spectacular Spider-Man and Peter Parker was a photojournalist like Jimmy.

* Sarge Steel: Jim Cummings. When reading Steel's dialogue in the comic, I'd imagined a bit of a gruff voice for the character. This occured to me thinking of ideas for a fanfic idea and thinking back on some of his roles and thought he might work for the voice I'd imagined.

Hope you like it.:)
